Glamorgan win NUL Division Two
Andrew Hignell - 9 September 2001

Glamorgan clinched the Division Two title in the Norwich Union League despite not being in action in the competition today.

Durham`s victory today, over Worcestershire by 9 runs under the Duckworth Lewis system, has put pay to Worcestershire`s aspirations of winning the Division Two title.

As the table below shows, Glamorgan now have an unassailable lead at the top of the table over Durham who have now completed their games for the season. Worcestershire can only gain a maximum of 40 points if they defeat Essex next week at New Road. If they do so, this will also clinch promotion for Worcestershire, but an Essex victory would mean that Hampshire and Sussex also enter the equation for the final promotion place.

Ironically, news of Glamorgan`s victory in Division Two of the National League competition came several hours after the Welsh county had gone down to a 10 wicket defeat to Leicestershire which has virtually ended Glamorgan`s hopes of remaining in Division One of the County Championship.
