Australians offer hope of match play to New Zealand
Lynn McConnell - 19 September 2001

New Zealand Cricket has received positive vibrations from the Australian Cricket Board that it may be able to provide more games to the New Zealanders if their tour to Pakistan does not proceed.

Time is running out for a tour to be re-scheduled for Pakistan with Friday next week as the likely point of no return.

NZC chief executive Martin Snedden said today the ACB had advised him that they thought they would be able to assist New Zealand in some reasonable way.

A significant concern the Australians have at the moment is that their major sponsor Ansett Airlines is in receivership and it has been the co-ordinator of travel and accommodation for the ACB and its programmes.

"They [the ACB] need a bit more time before making a decision, but they think they will be able to provide something for us," Snedden said.

"That is Plan B at the moment, as we have not cancelled the Pakistan tour and as a matter of courtesy to the Pakistan Board we have to keep that option open.

"But until the position is safe and secure there, we cannot entertain thoughts of touring there," he said.
