Carlton & United Breweries announced as major sponsor of WA cricket
Western Australian Cricket Association - 21 September 2001

Earlier today at the WACA Ground, the Western Australian Cricket Association officially announced Carlton & United Breweries as an official sponsor of the Association for the next ten years.

The sponsorship deal between the WACA and CUB creates an alignment with Cricket sponsorship at a national level. CUB is also the sponsor of the VB International limited over series and a tour sponsor of the Australian Cricket team.

The aligning of a state and national sponsor creates flow through advantages for many aspects of WA and Australian cricket, from the development of cricket through to the hosting of international events.

The aligning of the CUB deal streamlines certain business operations and allows the Australian Cricket Board and the WACA to share common goals with regards to those operations.

Graeme Wood, CUB's General Manager of Sales for Western Australia, said that CUB was delighted to be the WACA's choice of sponsor. In reference to CUB's sponsorship of the Australian Cricket Board, Mr Wood said, "The WACA sponsorship reinforces our already strong commitment to cricket at all levels, with the VB One Day International series and a tour sponsorship of the Australian Cricket team."

Mr Wood also went on to say, "CUB is delighted to be sponsoring the WACA. It provides the opportunity for CUB to continue as a 'grass roots' supporter of WA cricket and the WA community as a whole. Over the past seven years CUB has been supporting local cricket, through our major contribution to the Suburban Turf Cricket Association. Cricket and football are icon sports in Australia and CUB - as Australia's leading brewer - is delighted at the opportunity to be supporting these sports in WA."

The deal between CUB and the WACA, makes CUB a major naming rights sponsor of the WACA Ground, as well as a major support sponsor of the Western Warriors.

Kath White, Chief Executive Officer of the WACA, said that, "Our sponsorship deal with CUB provides the WACA with valuable assistance towards reaching many of our long term goals, and the development of cricket throughout the state".

WACA Marketing Manager Mr Steve Wright said, "The WACA has a proven record for working along side many leading Australian and West Australian companies. We plan to build a solid long-term relationship with Carlton & United Breweries, and create the type of relationship that will help secure the future success of WA Cricket at many levels."
