Dope test for cricketers to be introduced28 September 2001
The International Cricket Council (ICC) plans to introduce dope testing in cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials admitted Thursday.
The PCB said that the ICC has asked all its affiliated boards to present proposals in Kuala Lumpur's executive board meeting on the ways it can be implemented.
The PCB, however, confirmed that the ICC has decided to introduce doping in the Youth World Cup to be staged in New Zealand early next year. "It will serve as the stepping stone."
The ICC has indicated that it was keen to introduce dope tests from the 2003 World Cup, provided it received support from the various boards and the right procedure to implement it.
The PCB said if all went right, random dope testing would be done in both the Tests and one-day cricket and any player found guilty of using substances banned by the International Olympics Committee (IOC), the cricketer would be debarred.
