QEA Trophy Second Round Day-4 Report
Pakistan Cricket Board - 30 December 2002

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) won a tight match against Faisalabad by two wickets on the last day of the four-day QEA Trophy second round fixture at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Monday.
The bankers, resuming on the final morning at 80 for four and chasing 159 for an outright victory, romped home with two wickets to spare – thanks to a fine 54 by Naumanullah who struck five boundaries in a 64-ball knock.
Test opener Saeed Anwar was also amongst runs, when batting at No 7, he chipped in with a useful 34 that came off 36 deliveries and included six boundaries.
Home bowlers Farooq Iqbal and Moazzam Ali equally shared eight wickets between them but still ended up on the losing side. Nevertheless, they made the bankers run for their money, which itself is a big achievement considering the strength and experience the bankers had in their ranks.

At the LCCA ground, Lahore Whites completed the formality when they won their game against Sheikhupura by an innings and 57 runs. The visitors had started at 125 for four and needed 260 to make the home team bat again. But they were shot out for 203 with left-arm spinner Mohammad Husain picking up four wickets for 35 runs.

Paceman Abdul Rauf bowled Customs to a 54-run victory over Sialkot at the Saga ground when he scooped seven wickets for 55 runs to send the home team tumbling out for 124 after they had begun at the overnight score of 48 for four and chasing 178 for victory.

Fast bowler Ahmed Hayat earned a match haul of nine wickets that inspired Sargodha to a convincing eight-wicket victory over Service Industries in their backyard. Hayat followed up his three for 84 in the first innings with six for 57 that helped dismiss Service Industries for a paltry 144. This left Sargodha requiring 58 for an outright victory which they achieved for the loss of two wickets.

At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi defeated Karachi Blues by a big margin of 215 runs. Rawalpindi, after securing a 120-run first innings lead, declared their second innings at 220 for seven that left the tourists 340 for victory. But the visitors could only muster 125.

At the National Stadium in Karachi, Karachi Whites, after conceding a 41-run first innings lead to Pak PWD, preferred some batting practice and were 459 for seven when the match ended. Mohammad Masroor became a victim of nervous 90's when he became one of the two victims of paceman Rajesh Ramesh after scoring an exact 90. He was well supported by Wasim Naeem (82), Amin-ur-Rehman (63) and Fahadullah (61).

A brilliant century by opener Inam-ul-Haq saved the day for ADBP against KRL when the bankers, chasing 380 for victory, finished at 278 for nine. Inam stroked a match-saving 129 that came of 246 balls after staying at the crease for 355 minutes during which he struck 17 boundaries.

Weather came to the rescue of Lahore Blues against Wapda at Gymkhana ground in Okara where little over 21 overs of play was possible. Lahore Blues, who had started the day at 25 for five while chasing 325 for victory, finished at 115 for nine.
