India romp to easy win over Canada
Lynn McConnell - 21 January 2002

India provided Canada with a tough task in their group match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Auckland today.

The Indians batted first at Colin Maiden Park and totalled 356/5. Maninder Bisla hit 128 off 132 balls while a 183-run stand for the second wicket between Bisla and Parthiv Patel did the most damage in the innings with Patel matching Bisla by going at a run a ball pace. Nathan Richards was the most successful of the bowlers with three wickets, but at a cost of 70 runs.

Canada struggled to get anywhere near India with the bat and were all out for 114 in 40.2 overs. Umar Bhatti scored 39 off 67 balls and captain Ashish Bagai scored 33 off 43.

Siddharth Trivedi took three wickets for 28 runs and Rajesh Sharma took three for 13.

India play South Africa at North Harbour Stadium on Wednesday for the crunch game of the round while Canada meet Bangladesh at Colin Maiden Park tomorrow.
