Havant take crunch game to qualify for play-off
Mike Vimpany - 25 March 2002

Havant snatched a place in the NatWest Bank Hampshire Under-16 Development League championship play-off with a dramatic 24-run win over BAT Sports at the Rose Bowl.

They will face Fair Oak at the Hampshire Indoor School on Sunday April 14 for the right to become the inaugural champions.

Havant finished top of the log after beating BAT's youngsters in a winner-take-all final game.

The bowlers dominated a tense contest, with Matt Couch and Gary Cozins each taking two wickets as Havant's lower order helped post a modest 94 all out.

But, with the prize of a play-off slot in sight, BAT crumbled after a promising start and were dismissed for 70, leaving Havant top dogs.

Havant and BAT both beat Mudeford - Havant by 48 runs and BAT by four wickets in a high scoring affair.
