Adam Parore has opened the way for his recall to the New Zealand side less than two weeks after announcing that he was withdrawing from international cricket as he needed "a complete break to rediscover his energy". Parore met with chairman of selectors, Sir Richard Hadlee, and chief executive, Martin Snedden, in Christchurch today and told them that he was fully committed to playing for New Zealand in the series against England.

He said that he had had time to consider his position and that the break after the VB Series in Australia had done him good. "I was feeling exhausted after the Australian series and was planning a break after the England Tests. When I was left out of the one-day side I wanted to bring the break forward and I am grateful that New Zealand Cricket supported this decision.

"I am now feeling fully refreshed," Parore added. "It was very useful to meet with Sir Richard and Martin and to tell them that I am 100 per cent committed to a return for the England Tests."

Hadlee said that he had been reassured as to Parore's fitness and commitment. "The selectors will now sit down to debate the Test side in the sure knowledge that Adam Parore is fully committed to the cause."

The New Zealand selectors recently stated that all players returning from injury or time away from the side must have played either domestic four-day or one-day cricket before being considered for selection. Parore has been left out of the Auckland side for the State Championship match against Central Districts which starts later this week. It remains to be seen whether the selectors stick rigidly to their own policy – if so, then Parore may still find himself out of the reckoning.
