Simon Katich joins NSW Blues
Cricket New South Wales - 18 May 2002

Cricket NSW has confirmed Simon Katich will be joining the Blues from the 2002-03 season.

Katich comes to Sydney after a brilliant career with Western Australia, which led to his selection for Australia during the 2001 Ashes tour.

"We're extremely pleased Simon has decided to join the Blues," said NSW Chief Executive Officer David Gilbert.

"He's an outstanding batsman, and all-round cricketer, who will be a major asset for NSW cricket."

Katich will play for English county side Yorkshire for three weeks, replacing Darren Lehmann, who's returning to Australia for the Super Challenge II series.

It's expected he'll head to Sydney late next month.

"Simon is exactly the sort of player we want in the Blues squad for 2002-03," said coach Steve Rixon.

"His attitude and professionalism in discussing a move from Perth to Sydney has been extremely impressive, and I look forward to him making a strong contribution this summer."
