Charl Langeveldt to return home early as South Africans lead averages
Keith Lane - 27 May 2002

The Boland paceman Charl Langeveldt, after an excellent start to the English season where he has been playing for Colne in the Lancashire League, is on his way home after twisting his ankle and hurting ligaments. Langeveldt is expected to be out of cricket for about 10 weeks before returning to England in August.

Langeveldt the leading wicket taker and second in the league bowling averages has also done well with the bat having scored a hundred and will be missed by his Colne team sitting mid table in the league.

Martin van Jaarsveld has had just as good a season sitting top of the batting averages and in the top five of the bowling averages. He sits second behind Langeveldt in wickets taken while his team Enfield are second in the league.

Jacques Rudolph after a slow start scored 45 not out and a 101 in the last two matches. Andrew Hall has also struck form with a 115 not out, 53 not out and 10 not out in his last three visits to the crease. Both players have jumped well up the averages over the last two weekends.

Pierre Joubert has had a slow month not taking any wickets in the last two outings but managing a 38 not out as rain played havoc with most of the weekends fixtures.

Over the weekend Andre Seymore got things together with a 78, but as van Jaarsveld has been more successful with the ball having taken 14 wickets this season. His best of 4-61 also come over the weekend.

Con de Lange (17 wickets) and Paul Adams (14 wickets), both in the top 10 in the bowling averages, have not done much with the bat with Adams yet to get into double figures after six turns at bat.

In the Ribblesdale League Ian Mitchell has been consistent averaging 30.3 with the bat, a highest of 59 and 42.5 with the ball, a best of 3/53.
