Dawn Close call for Karachi Gymkhana Blues

Karachi Gymkhana Blues moved a step closer to the quarterfinals of the 17th Karachi Gymkhana Callmate Festival, beating Mohammad Hussain CC by three runs, in a nerve tingling finish Monday.

Karachi Gymkhana Blues won the toss and amassed 225 for eight wickets in 25 overs and restricted Mohammad Hussain CC to 222 for whom allrounder Ameeruddin excelled but his efforts went in vain. Akhtar Munir was adjudged Man of the Match for his figures of 4-47.

In an earlier match played in the morning, Tapal CC booked their berth in the quarterfinal from Group B, after handing out a six-wicket defeat to UBL Academy.

Losing the toss and put into bat by Tapal, UBL Academy, except for opener Umer Shahzad (28), the rest of the batting line-up folded against the spin attack of Vinod Ramesh two for five, Haris Ayaz two for 15 and Kamran Umer two for 17, and were skittled out for 106 runs in 22.3 overs. Tapal in reply reached the winning target of 107 runs in 17.3 overs, losing four wickets. Javeed Mansoor top scored with 36 runs, with five boundaries being his principal strokes and Hanif-ur-Rehan weighed in with 32, also containing five boundaries.

Saddar Town triumph

Saddar Town CC moved closer to the quarterfinals of the Seventh Danish Trophy Ramazan tournament, beating Cantt Sports by seven runs in an exciting finish Monday.

Batting first, Saddar Town raced to 176 for six wickets in 20 overs through Habib-ur-Rehan and Rehmat Khan with 33 runs apiece. Akber Khan (27), Mohammad Ali (24) and Shabir Ahmed (22) also batted well. Khursheed Malik two for 26 and Tariq Mahmood two for 33, were amongst the wickets for the fielding side.

Chasing 177 runs for victory, Cantt Sports were bowled out for 169 runs with two deliveries to spare. Rafiq ur Rehman (55), and Hamid Tanoli (32), nearly steered their team to victory. Off-spinners Haq Nawaz two for 28 and Siraj Khan two for 31, bowled well for the winners.

Hill Park in semis

Hill Park CC continuing on their winning streak, reached the semi- final of the Ford & Lord Trophy cricket tournament, beating Shaheen Colts by eight wickets.

Batting first Shaheen Colts did well in scoring 146 for six in 20 overs with Raja Sohail and Zeeshan Jamil scoring 42 runs each. Humair Shafat two for 18 and Raja Aqab two for 34, bowled well for the home side.

In reply, Hill Park CC reached the winning target of 148 runs after losing only two wickets in 16.4 overs. Mohammad Zafar (52) and Mohammad Zahid (40), made victory possible. Talha Shabbir bagged both the wickets that fell for 32 runs.

Korangi Friends win

Korangi Friends beat Malir Muslim CC by 10 wickets in the All Karachi Sundip Colour Kit Ramazan Festival tournament played at the Airport Stadium.

Batting first Malir Muslim were all out for 114 runs in 16.3 overs. Azhar Hussain top scored with 43. Adil Aziz bagged three for 14, Abdul Sattar three for 31 and Sohail Mirza two for 15, claimed the wickets.

Korangi Friends in reply scored 115 for no loss in 12.3 overs with Waseem Hanif (68 n.o.) and Talib Ali (36 n.o.), when victory came.

Tooba Sports in last 8

Tooba Sports moved into the quarterfinals of the Nehal Siddiqui Ramazan Trophy cricket tournament, getting the better of Model CC by five wickets.

Model CC deciding to bat first, reached 172 for seven in 20 overs through Amir Kaleem (56), Atif Maqbool (30) and Ariz Kamal (27). Shahid Baig two for 18 and Nasir Sheerazi two for 23 bowled well.

Tooba Sports in reply reached 176 for five in 17.5 overs. Raja Mushtaq (80), with 10 fours and a six, Shahid Baig (37) and Murtaza (20) batted well. Azmat Noor picked up four for 21 for the losing side.
