Batting landmarks
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 7, 2002

Can you list the first batsmen to reach 1000, 2000, 3000 etc Test runs? asks Michael Watson
The first man to reach 1000 Test runs was the dogged England batsman Arthur Shrewsbury, in 1893. Shrewsbury was one of the great WG Grace's favourite players: when asked once who would be the first choice in his England side, WG said "Give me Arthur". This phrase was used much later as the title of a biography of Shrewsbury. The first to the other landmarks were:
2000 runs – Clem Hill (1903-04)
3000 runs – Clem Hill (1910-11)
4000 runs – Jack Hobbs (1926)
5000 runs – Jack Hobbs (1928-29)
6000 runs – Wally Hammond (1938-39)
7000 runs – Wally Hammond (1946)
8000 runs – Garry Sobers (1973-74)
9000 runs – Sunil Gavaskar (1985-86)
10,000 runs – Sunil Gavaskar (1986-87)
11,000 runs – Allan Border (1993-94)
