PCB issues details of Mudassar Nazar meeting
PCB - 17 September 2002

Mr. Mudassar Nazar, Coach Pakistan Cricket Team, had a meeting with the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, Lt. General Tauqir Zia, in Rawalpindi on the morning of September 17, 2002.

During the meeting Mr. Mudassar Nazar reviewed the recent performance of the Pakistan Cricket Team and gave his detailed assessment of the situation.

The main concern was the physical fitness, wear and tear and "burn-out" due to excess of cricket of some of the players. He opined that if the players were to be considered for the World Cup, they should be rested and given proper training at home. After this, depending on their physical condition, they could then be considered for inclusion in the World cup 2003 squad.

The reports of the Manager, Doctor and Trainer, expressed similar views. The Manager's report further said that Wasim Akram and Saeed Anwar, had expressed the desire to be rested for the Test series against Australia. Inzamam-ul-Haq is suffering from foot injury and will be examined by the speciallist Dr. Young, to determine whether surgery was reuqired. In the eventuality of Inzamam having to undergo surgery he would require about three months to regain full fitness.

Upon relinquishing his duties as the National Coach, Mr. Mudassar Nazar, having been first ever head of Cricket Academy, will revert to his assignment of heading National Cricket Academy from October.

Meanwhile Mr. Richard Pybus, who is being considered as the potential Pakistan Coach, is visiting Pakistan for preliminary discussion with Chairman PCB, Lt. General Tauqir Zia on September 20/21, 2002.
