Cricket in sunny Mallorca, Spain

About 20 teams from the UK and Europe visit Mallorca each year. Some are making their third and fourth trips. Much more reasonably priced than a tour to, say, the Caribbean, Mallorca offers sunny skies, friendly opposition, super facilities and all the famed night life, beaches, golf, etc of this Mediterranean island. Most clubs visit for either a long weekend or a full week, some come with an all-male group, others bring wives and girlfriends and make the trip a family holiday.

The Mallorca Cricket Ground, on the outskirts of Magalluf, has an artificial wicket and a "sand" type outfield both of which play extremely well. The MCC donated the wicket to the club and played their first ever tour match in Spain at the ground. A fine clubhouse features an excellent bar and lounge, changing rooms, viewing terrace, etc. There are two, floodlit practice nets. The ground is within walking distance of all hotels in Magalluf, approximately 800 mts from the beach. Golf, tennis and many other sports facilities are nearby. Cricket is played throughout the year with the exception of late July and August.

The first week of October sees the annual Mallorca International Cricket Festival Week. 1998 has teams taking part represent Canada, Scotland, Switzerland, Australia, England and Spain.

The 5th Mallorca International Cricket Week has space for one further team to make up the full complement of 6. In the past teams have represented Spain, England, Scotland, Wales, India, Switzerland, France, Holland, etc. The date for 1999 is 2 - 8 October. Each team playes 3 matches. Cost is purely match fees of 165 pounds per team total (incl. "teas"), plus attendance at one or two social functions. Add to this cost of travel to Magalluf, Mallorca and one week's accommodation. Great fun and a chance to meet a whole new set of cricketing friends. Ideally, a team from outside of England, Wales and Spain would be preferred, but all considered.
