2004 Wisden Almanack review
Chile created a possible first in world cricket when it introduced an Americanstyle player draft for the 2002-03 season. In an attempt to dilute the dominance of Las Condes CC and La Dehesa CC, the 47 available players were allotted a points value out of ten and the holders of the 2001-02 wooden spoon, Prince of Wales Country Club, given first choice. The system may require fine-tuning as La Dehesa remained unbeaten to win the Metropolitan Cup, defeating Las Condes in the final. La Dehesa player and national parachuting champion Anthony Adams jun. attracted everyone’s attention when he arrived for a club game from the air, landing at fine leg, peeling off his gear and taking his place in the field at the very spot where he landed. Two new clubs joined the Metropolitan Cup for the 2003-04 season: Viña del Mar, comprising employees of an Australian-owned natural gas company, and San Bernardino, from the southern outskirts of Santiago. This club was formed when Miguel Angel Hernandez, a Chilean Christian missionary, visited India in his work and returned home converted to cricket. Both teams comprise only Chileans.
